| 'I cannot praise too highly the advantage and quality of life EFT has given me. It has turned my life around in a way that I never thought possible' Massie Drake EFT's Ancient Roots EFT has its roots in the 5000 year old ancient art of acupuncture and shares the same principles in that it recognizes the existence of the body's electrical 'energy' circuit known as the meridian system. Sometimes referred to as Qi, Chi or Prana in popular practices such as Martial Arts, Yoga and Tai Chi. Dr Roger Callaghan and TFT In the mid-seventies a technique called TFT was first developed by psychologist Dr Roger Callaghan who studied many forms of therapy including Behavioural Kinesiology and acupuncture. He discovered quite by chance that by stimulating very specific meridian energy points emotional problems were quickly and often spontaneously released! Mary's Story and the Great Discovery A patient called Mary was referred to Dr Callaghan suffering from a very severe life-long phobia of water. So much so she found it very de-stressing to shower or take baths or go out in the rain, she even had frequent nightmares that water was as she put it - 'out to get me'. Dr Callaghan tried his best and used every technique he knew, as did all Mary's previous doctors, but with minimal success. However, he noticed on several occasions that she complained of feeling nauseous and of feeling 'the fear in her stomach'. Knowing a little about acupressure he decided he could at least try to help with this symptom, so one day upon her mentioning the feeling again he asked her if she'd like to try and relieve it by tapping under her eye - the main stomach pressure point - to see if it that would help, and as she did so something miraculous happened. After only a short while of tapping the stomach meridian not only did her nausea rapidly disappear, but also her long-standing phobia! Needless to say both were completely amazed as she reported feeling 'zero' fear - and has remain so to this day. Later after 15 years of research Dr Callaghan developed the technique known as 'Thought Field Therapy' (TFT), which uses various brief and specific algorithms for different issues. The world owes a lot to Dr Callaghan for this great discovery and his subsequent work. Another who is owed a lot is Gary Craig, a Stanford electrical engineer and Minister who was one of Dr Callaghan's first students. In 1995 he went on to further the techniques and developed an all encompassing and far simpler technique we now know as EFT. EFT's wide-spread applications have grown greatly in recent years. Exciting new developments have been in the field of helping people with chronic disease and illness such as MS and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. As Gary says -'We are on the ground floor of a new healing high-rise'.
